When it comes to the trampoline, one of the most critical components are trampoline poles. In this blog, we'll dive into where trampoline poles are used, the different types of poles available, and key considerations when purchasing replacement parts.
What are Trampoline Poles?
Trampoline Poles are the backbone of the entire trampoline system and play a vital role in the structural stability, safety and functionality of the trampoline. Be sure to check on these regularly to make sure they are in tip-top condition.
Different Types of Trampoline Poles
Not all trampoline poles are the same. They vary in design, materials, and function, depending on the specific model and brand of the trampoline. Generally, all trampoline poles can be separated into a few categories:
Enclosure Poles
Enclosure poles are a critical part of the safety enclosure system that surrounds the trampoline. They are designed to support and lift the enclosure net (also known as safety net), which prevents users from falling off the trampoline. If you're not sure, make sure you look at Trampoline Safety Nets - Is it Worth It?
Within a trampoline enclosure pole set-up, you’ll typically find poles split into two sections- Upper Enclosure Pole or Lower Enclosure Poles.
- The Lower Enclosure Pole – this pole connects directly to the main frame of the trampoline and forms the bottom half of the enclosure structure. Find our best selling lower enclosure pole here.
- The Upper Enclosure Pole – this pole connects to the lower pole and extend upward to hold the net in place. Check out this Straight Upper Pole vs. Curved Upper Pole.
Frame Poles (aka. Top Rails)
Trampoline Frame Poles, also known as Top Rails, are what form the outer ring of the trampoline. These connect to the springs and mat. These are always curved on a round trampoline and come in two types- Frame Poles with or without sockets.
- Frame Poles with Sockets – this pole connects the circular frame to the leg poles and also connect to frame poles with sockets. For example, here is a 14ft Top Rail with Socket.
- Frame Poles without Sockets – this pole connects two frame poles with sockets together to help form the circular frame. Check out a 14ft Top Rail without sockets to see the difference.
Trampoline Leg Poles
The last type of pole on the trampoline is the Trampoline leg poles. These are the vertical or angled poles that lift the entire trampoline frame off the ground. They connect to the frame poles via sockets and come in two types- Vertical Leg Extensions and Trampoline Leg Bases.
- Vertical Leg Extensions – these trampoline poles are usually straight and have one end that can connect to a socket on the trampoline frame. This connects the frame to the leg base. There are Vertical Leg Extensions with Holes vs. Vertical Leg Extensions without Holes. Check carefully!
- Trampoline Leg Bases – these are the feet of the trampoline. They are connected to leg extensions and sit on the ground. They are critical for trampoline stability. Here is our most popular model for 14ft
